Keep

  Dreams

Alive

The committee, with the support of Nova Scotia Addiction Prevention and Treatment Services, consists of volunteers from the Prospect Road, Fairview, Rockingham and Clayton Park areas of Halifax, NS. We welcome new members from the community. Call 424-2023 for more information.
Our next meeting is at 7:00 pm, Monday, April 16.
Our mandate is to increase our community's awareness of the dangers of addictions, and to provide strategies to reduce the influence of addictions, especially on youth.

Something has to change...
The total yearly cost of substance abuse in Canada is approximately $40 Billion, about $1300 for every citizen.

Keep your kids off gambling websites. Betstopper may help.

In Nova Scotia, you are able to enter a free stop smoking program! Call 424-2025.
(In Nova Scotia, smoking directly kills over 1600 people per year, and hundreds more from second hand smoke.)

Thanks to all those who support our efforts during the year. With their help, we were able to provide young people with both intrinsic and tangible rewards for their efforts to choose a healthy lifestyle.

SUPPORT OUR ACTIVITIES

Please feel welcome to join our committee. We are simply citizens concerned about the problems addictions cause in our community.  We have one hour and a half meeting  each month from September through June, and various members take on whichever of activities they would like. It could be as simple as picking up printed material, assisting with school contests, or meeting with others interested in addiction awareness projects. Please consider joining our group. Ricky Anderson, at 424-5623 can give you more information and put you in direct contact with us. We also would like your input as to how we can better serve our community. Call Ricky at  424-5623 with your suggestions.

You can also support the activities of the Mainland North Local Committee on Drug Awareness, and those of other local committees in the Capital Health District, by preparing a cheque to "Addiction Prevention and Treatment Services, in Trust" and sending it to Nova Scotia Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 896, Dartmouth, N.S. B2Y 3Z6. Please add a memo that this is for  Mainland North Drug Awareness Committee activities. A charitable receipt will be sent to you for tax purposes. We appreciate your support!
